EST was founded in September 1992 on the occasion of the Translation Studies Congress in Vienna as a network for stimulating and coordinating research in translation and interpreting forum for the exchange and dissemination of new ideas and insights in Translation Studies center for information and know-how on issues of quality and training in translation and interpreting platform for the promotion of Translation Studies as an academic discipline.
EST publishes the EST Newsletter twice a year and an annual Directory of Members with address information and research specializations. EST organizes a Translation Studies Congress every three years. EST also offers international contacts to assist doctoral research and promotes cooperative research within thematic Working Groups.
EST has over 280 registered members from 35 countries all over the world. As a democratically organized Society,EST lives by the active participation of its members. Its activities are coordinated by an Executive Board which is elected every three years by the General Meeting.
