Translation Automation User Society (TAUS) welcomes Transco as its 28th founding member. TAUS will accept additional founding members until February 15, 2006. Founded in February 2005, TAUS presented the concept of "translation automation" and aims to transform the vision of translation automation into action. It enables the members to share experiences and insights regarding translation and process automation, open and reciprocal. Transco as a leading Asian localization provider has a good tradition in developing and applying new translation technology. "We see technology is playing an more and more important role in localization," said Vic Dickson, CEO of Transco. "Customers are demanding for both quality and efficiency at higher level, Transco must accelerate in innovating its technology. We believe joining TAUS will help us achieve the goal." While most of TAUS members are from the client side or tool developers, the participance of Transco as a language service provider (LSP) that doesn't offer any translation tools is a sign that some of the leading LSPs are changing their viewpoints regarding automation technology, as machine translation (MT). Denver Wu, Translation Technology Manager of Transco, explained, "We believe computer can never replace human in translation but technology can do much more in making translation better and faster. It is risky investing for translation technology of next generation but it is even more risky if we do nothing, or simply resist MT, like many LSPs do." |
